The Equivalence between Certain Statistical Prediction Methods and Linearized Dynamical Methods

چکیده
The linearized hydrodynamic equations for storm surges are solved in analytic form for a very simple model basin and an arbitrary field of wind and pressure to show that a solution can be obtained as an integral of the product of the atmospheric forcing function and an influence function whose value tends to zero with increasing time lags. In practical cases t,his solution can be computed as a weighted sum of the meteorological observations during a short period before the storm surge observation. A finite difference scheme for a slightly more goncral basin is then developed and the solution given formally in terms of a polynomial involving bot'h vectors and matrices. I t is shown that this solution is equivalent to the analytic solution and that both are equivalent to a li~lear function of the meteorological measurements of wind and pressure which must be used to obtain a descript, ion of any actual forcing function for storm surges. The technique can be generalized to provide the solution for basins of almost any shape. The difficulties and uncertainties involved in the hydrodynamic solution are discussed, and the advantages of using a statistical method to dc4erminc the solution of the problem when sufficient data are available are shom-n.

Some Statistical Methods for Prediction of Athletic Records
Prediction of the sports records has received a great deal of attention from researchers in different disciplines. This article reviews some of the methods developed by statisticians and offers few improvements. Specific methods discussed include trend analysis, tail modeling, and methods based on certain results of the theory of records for independent and identically distributed attempts. To ...
متن کاملDynamic equivalence relation on the fuzzy measure algebras
The main goal of the present paper is to extend classical results from the measure theory and dynamical systems to the fuzzy subset setting. In this paper, the notion of dynamic equivalence relation is introduced and then it is proved that this relation is an equivalence relation. Also, a new metric on the collection of all equivalence classes is introduced and it is proved that this metric is...
متن کاملFUZZY SUBGROUPS AND CERTAIN EQUIVALENCE RELATIONS
In this paper, we study an equivalence relation on the set of fuzzysubgroups of an arbitrary group G and give four equivalent conditions each ofwhich characterizes this relation. We demonstrate that with this equivalencerelation each equivalence class constitutes a lattice under the ordering of fuzzy setinclusion. Moreover, we study the behavior of these equivalence classes under theaction of a...
متن کاملOn certain semigroups of transformations that preserve double direction equivalence
Let TX be the full transformation semigroups on the set X. For an equivalence E on X, let TE(X) = {α ∈ TX : ∀(x, y) ∈ E ⇔ (xα, yα) ∈ E}It is known that TE(X) is a subsemigroup of TX. In this paper, we discussthe Green's *-relations, certain *-ideal and certain Rees quotient semigroup for TE(X).
متن کاملPredictive Ability of Statistical Genomic Prediction Methods When Underlying Genetic Architecture of Trait Is Purely Additive
A simulation study was conducted to address the issue of how purely additive (simple) genetic architecture might impact on the efficacy of parametric and non-parametric genomic prediction methods. For this purpose, we simulated a trait with narrow sense heritability h2= 0.3, with only additive genetic effects for 300 loci in order to compare the predictive ability of 14 more practically used ge...
